Chest wall tumors
Tumors of the chest wall are varied, some of which are found most often in this region. They can be divided into benign and malignant tumors and into those which arise in the ribcage and those of soft tissue density.
Benign
Benign tumors include :
- soft tissue
- hemangioma: common
- lymphangioma: common
- elastofibroma dorsi: common
- lipoma: chest wall lipoma
- schwannoma
- neurofibroma
- ganglioneuroma
- paraganglioma
- hemangiopericytoma
- skeletal (ribcage)
- fibrous dysplasia: common
- aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC): common
- giant cell tumor (GCT)
- ossifying fibromyxoid tumor
- chondromyxoid fibroma
- osteochondroma
- mesenchymal hamartoma of chest wall: sometimes even considered a developmental anomaly
Malignant
The most common malignant lesions are metastases. Lesions include :
- soft tissue
- skeletal (ribcage)
- chest wall metastases: common
- myeloma
- chondrosarcoma
- osteosarcoma
